3-Day Kakamega Forest Birding Tour: Ultimate Bird-watching Adventure

Detailed Itinerary

Day1. Nairobi to Kakamega Forest Reserve

You need to have spent a night in Nairobi and then this morning, wake up early and transfer to Kakamega Forest reserve at the edges of Lake Victoria about 45 km from Kisumu town. Arrive and have lunch which will be followed by an evening birding tour at around 1700 hours. Birds that will be spotted include African emerald cuckoo, Blue Headed Bee Eater, Turner’s Eremomela, Black Billed Turaco, and Grey Parrots. Return to the lodge for your dinner

Day2. Full day in Kakamega forest reserve Birding

We wake up for early morning Birding in the forest on sunrise and this will give us to chance to hear calls and spot some birds like Prinia, Black-faced Prinia, Chubb’s Cisticola, Black-faced Rufous Warbler, Turner’s Eremomela, Uganda Woodland Warbler, Olive-green Camaroptera, Blue-headed Bee-eater, White-spotted Flufftail, Snowy-crowned Robin-Chat, Blue-shouldered Robin-Chat, Grey-winged Robin-Chat, Jameson’s Wattle-eye, Brown-throated Wattle-eye, Yellow-bellied Wattle-eye, Chestnut Wattle-eye, Purple-throated Cuckoo-Shrike, Great Blue Turaco, African Broadbill, Bar-tailed Trogon, Equatorial Akalat, Brown-eared Woodpecker, Yellow-crested Woodpecker, Brown Illadopsis and more.

We return to the Lodge for late breakfast at around 1000 hours and then relax as we do leisure birding at the lodge. In the evening, return to the forest for another doze of birding. Don’t miss mammal species like varvet monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, duikers, red colobus and many more. In the evening, head back to the lodge for your last night.

Day3. Transfer back to Nairobi

Wake up for a morning bird-watching tour at the edges of the forest and then transfer back to Nairobi. Be dropped at any agreed point and this will mark the end of the safari.
